Özet

ÖZET

Akdeniz diyeti; zeytinyağı, sebze, meyve, tam tahıllar, kurubaklagiller, yağlı tohumlar ve balık tüketiminin ön planda olduğu, sağlıklı yağ örüntüsü ile karakterize geleneksel bir beslenme modelidir. Son yıllarda bu beslenme modelinin yalnızca fiziksel sağlık değil, aynı zamanda mental sağlık ve psikolojik iyi oluş üzerindeki etkileri de yoğun şekilde araştırılmaktadır. Bu kitap bölümünün amacı, Akdeniz diyeti ile mental iyi oluş arasındaki ilişkiyi güncel literatür ışığında değerlendirmek ve bu ilişkinin altında yatan biyolojik mekanizmaları açıklamaktır. Mevcut kanıtlar, Akdeniz diyetine yüksek uyumun depresyon, anksiyete ve algılanan stres düzeylerinde azalma; yaşam kalitesi ve psikolojik iyi oluşta ise artış ile ilişkili olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu etkilerin temelinde diyetin yüksek polifenol, omega-3 yağ asidi, vitamin, mineral ve diyet lifi içeriği yer almaktadır. Akdeniz diyeti; oksidatif stresin azaltılması, kronik inflamasyonun baskılanması, nörotransmitter sentezinin desteklenmesi ve bağırsak mikrobiyotası kompozisyonunun iyileştirilmesi yoluyla mental sağlığı olumlu yönde etkileyebilmektedir. Özellikle bağırsak-beyin aksı üzerinden kısa zincirli yağ asitleri üretiminin artması, serotonin metabolizmasının düzenlenmesi ve nöroinflamasyonun azaltılması, psikolojik iyi oluşun desteklenmesinde önemli biyolojik mekanizmalar olarak öne çıkmaktadır. Bununla birlikte, çalışmalar arasında metodolojik farklılıklar bulunmakta olup, bireysel genetik özellikler, mikrobiyota yapısı ve diyet uyum düzeyi gibi faktörlerin sonuçları etkileyebileceği düşünülmektedir. Sonuç olarak, Akdeniz diyeti mental iyi oluşun desteklenmesinde umut verici bir beslenme yaklaşımı olarak görülmekte; ancak nedensel ilişkilerin daha net ortaya konulabilmesi için uzun süreli ve yüksek kaliteli randomize kontrollü çalışmalara ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır.
